Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, it is expected that students should be able to:
- Distinguish between and outline the arguments for statist, internationalist, and cosmopolitan approaches to global questions
- Characterise the distinctive moral and practical challenges raised by responding to global, as opposed to domestic, injustices
- Critically assess the effectiveness and fairness of international norms, laws, and policies in addressing global concerns
Module learning aims
This module will introduce students to contemporary debates in global political theory.
Module content
Topics to be covered may include the ethics of trading with dictatorial regimes, the reparative responsibilities of former colonial powers, arguments for and against open borders, and how to fairly allocate the burdens of responding to the climate crisis.
